Think about what you and your partner analyzed today while reading Walt Whitman's poem "I Hear America Singing."
As a class, we're going to compose our own version of "I Hear America Singing"; our version is called, "I Hear Arapahoe Singing."
Please add your own verse in your own voice to this poem. You can add a single line, or you can add an entire stanza. The tone is up to you.
Enjoy!

I hear Arapahoe singing
Voices pound down the halls
lockers slam as the first bell rings
I hear the students singing
as they despairingly anticipate the nights homework
The teachers song as they pack up after the long and gruesome day
*sing
I hear Arapahoe singing
laughter from the cafeteria
travels down the vacant halls
after a long day
Music and song erupt from the east side of the school
Flashes of black and gold adorn the halls while students cheer for the Arapahoe teams
Arapahoe's song
So different, yet blended.
An individual,
No other can reproduce its words.
Echoes ringing down the halls
Students letting their voices ring
Glee from day ending bells,
Gloom from a full night’s homework.
I hear Arapahoe singing
Everybody searching for their place
Trying to decipher the constant changes
Never knowing which decisions will impact them the most
Confusion clouds the mind
Knowledge is constantly being thrown at them
They see the distant light at the end
If they can just make it there
I hear the anxious students, frantically trying to make sense of poetry!
I hear all the groups singing
cliques, clubs, classes, and loners,
all making their own way
through the crowded halls and the slamming lockers
The singing of each clique blends,
Together in the cafeteria,
Each group hums a different melody,
But when strung together, create the pride of Arapahoe.
The song of love, laughter, and friendship
The songs of hard work, and strive
The song that keeps us all together
On the road to reach our dreams
The freshmen singing their hello's
The seniors singing their goodbye's
The sophomores singing their new's
The juniors singing their old's
I hear Arapahoe singing
I hear the gossip that everyone loves
I hear the laughter that everyone loves too.
The songs of Arapshoe,
Majestic and beautiful.
So many stories, so many beginnings,
All just waiting to be sung out loud.
arapahoe*
I hear Arapahoe singing
the songs of their teenaged years
Expirencing all they can,
Jamming everything into their busy lives.
I hear the students singing life into Arapahoe.
I hear their singing
their joys and their laughters
their times of stress
and their times of drama
All combine to complete
the melody of Arapahoe
I hear Arapahoe singing
Each student singing a tune for individual greatness
Combining to form the melody that is life.
I hear Arapahoe singing
I hear the frantic songs of students
students searching for their place in the world.
I hear Arapahoe singing
As he parabolic rumble of footsteps
beats to the pace of yet another symmetrical day
I hear Arapahoe singing
The gossipers singing about each other! Gasp!
Erin Oliver singing about not killing her sister when thinking about Pudd'n Head.
Augh okay because mine somehow disappeared off...
I hear Arapahoe singing
Students laughing as they walk along the hallways
Their charming smiles adorning the walls
I hear Arapahoe singing, sighing through the day.
I hear the teachers pouring knowledge into open minds.
I hear the students worrying about dreaded tests
But, despite the individual,
I hear all singing, all in the same energetic melody.
