If You Really Knew Me...

In an effort to get to know each other and trust each other, I'd like you to take a little risk and post five things that you'd like other people in the class to know about you. The quirkier/more unique and personal, the better.

Here are my five:
1. I am a terrible sport and throw a fit when I lose--especially when it comes to board and card games.
2. I have a phobia of people throwing up.
3. I like to watch one rerun of "Scrubs" before going to bed because I find it relaxing.
4. Sometimes I'd rather curl up in bed and read a book than go out and socialize. I would have never admitted this in high school because I used to think that it made me a dork. Now I'm automatically a dork because I'm old and a teacher, so I don't really care.
5. I tell everybody that my knee never hurts and that ACL surgery wasn't that big of a deal, but my knee actually hurts every day. I think I'm scared that it will never go back to normal, and I don't want everyone to think that I'm a whiner.

Your turn!

OK, here are mine:

1. I'm a big fan of video games.

2. I'm a serious arachnophobe, at least of little spiders and widow spiders. The only spider I'm not scared of is the tarantula.

3. I'm a perfectionist to the extreme. I see things through, even if that means I have to hover over every person in a team project. I correct every mistake I see.

4. I'm highly critical of the work of myself and others.

5. I like anything that has to do with LEGO.

1. I own every episode of Friends on DVD.

2. I freak out and get really nervous when people come and watch my games. An I usually end up doing badly.

3. I volunteer at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. I've worked in the Space Odyssey, Quest For Immortality, Engineer it!, and Titanic exhibits.

4. I have a brother who is 11 years older than I am.

5. I LOVE cars. My grandpa used to race, so I grew up watching him.

AllisonS said...

1. I can wiggle my nose and my ears, sometimes at the same time, ask and I will show you.

2. I am a giant bookworm, I would much rather read then go outside and play sports.

3. I am an extremely nervous person and on the first day of school I almost threw up.

4. This is the first year in my whole life that I have gone to public school.

5. I am obsessed with penguins, I have shirts, stuffed animal; you name it and I got it.

Okay here we go:
1. When I was born I had black hair and then at two/three months it all fell out. When it grew back it was blond.
2.I am obsessed with movies and this year have watched a little over 300 movies. I plan on watching at least 365 this year.
3.I once convinced my younger sister that she was bought on Ebay and that was why we looked nothing alike. (She later found out it wasn't true and I got in trouble.)
4.I never watch TV in my room only movies and currently in my DVD player is Zodiac starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
5.My two biggest pet-peeves are people touching my hair and the fact that 3 owls play Hedwig in the Harry Potter movies.

DennisRocks said...

1) I like to play the guitar and drums.

2) Math and writing have always been my favorite subjects.

3) I LOVE lamas (but I don't know why...I've actually never even seen one in person)

4) I've hit the same telephone pole twice on my bike.

5) I like to run around in the sprinklers, but one time I ran into a bus stop sign and got a mild concussion.

1. I HATE the number seventeen. I can't even deal with typing it in numeral form. I think it is the ugliest number and I hate that it isn't even-- I really, really hate odd numbers.

2. I am definately the most made fun of out of all my friends. But honestly, I kind of like it.

3. I am absolutely terrified on Frank the Bunny from the movie Donnie Darko. I have no reason why he scares me so much but I have been brought to tears thinking about him.

4. I am absolutely nothing like my older brothers and I hate that people always assume we do the same things and act the same way.

5. The thing that grosses me out the most is when guys wear flip flops or sandals. Feet in general are really gross but guys' feet are usually really hairy and pale. Stuff like that should just be kept covered up...

rachelseverson said...

1. I'm a fan of tennis, both playing and watching it.

2. My dog Tyler has lymphoma and I think about it a lot because he probably won't be around for much longer.

3. I played soccer when I was little and one time I ran into the goal post during a game.

4. I love going skiing down really hard runs with friends, but not my family.

5. Spiders really freak me out, it doesn't matter what size they are.

nicolek said...

1. I am obsessed with Postsecret. I have some of the hardest times I've cried or laughed have been from reading them. My biggest goal is to have my secret in one of the books.

2. I am terrified of being stuck on medians between streets! So if you ever see someone freaking out on the one between our school and starbucks... that's probably me.

3. Since this summer I CANNOT get the Pina Colada song by Rupert Holmes out of my head.

4. I will not go a week without getting new music.

5. I absolutely love Lord of the Rings.

maddisonm said...

1. I don’t like loose strands of hair. It grosses me out. Like when you sit down in a desk and there is a huge strand of hair sitting there!! Ewwww.
2. I stress out about school too much.
3. I don’t like to read, I would rather be playing lacrosse.
4. I love hanging with my friends, sometimes we make these ridiculous, random, movies. When we watch them we all just start cracking up laughing.
5. I have a strong relationship with my family and I am a Christian, but I always feel weird telling people that.

matthewg said...

Okay:

1. I'm not exactly afraid of large groups of random people, but I am intimidated. If you don't see me up and talking, this is probably why. After I get to know people, though, I tend to open up a lot.

2. I love working with technology. Computers, video games, pretty much anything.

3. I love listening to, and composing music. When it comes to instruments, I love to play the piano and guitar. Also, the only two genres of music I can't stand is Rap and MOST country.

4. Some of my greatest heroes are webcomic artists. Scott Ramsoomair of VGCats is currently at the top of my list.

5. I haven't written a short story since Elementary school, and the realization that for the most part I've only written essays for years is depressing.

KelseyL said...

1. I enjoy making movies with my friends where we dress up and just act like a bunch of idiots.

2. One of my pet peeves is people filling their nails. The noise is like nails on a chalkboard and it send shivers down my back. I also don’t like when people bite their fingernails and I always tell my friends to stop.

3. I am in love with the Harry Potter books. I went to get the book at midnight twice and one time I dressed up.

4. When I am driving on the highway I am scared to pass semi-trucks because I am afraid that I will be crushed by them.

5. I play soccer and I am the goalie. When I was younger my friend and I would get way too competitive at practices and end up hurting each other on purpose.

catherinec said...

1.I play the piano competitively and have been since I was seven.
2.I would choose sweats over jeans any day.
3.At volleyball practice yesterday we were doing push ups and I hit my head on the floor.
4.I am a BIG Harry Potter fan and after reading the seventh book, I was almost convinced he was real.
5.I have Veggie Tales on my ipod.

brennanl said...

1. I hate attic fans with my life. I think they are the scariest things ever, and when one is running, I will NOT walk under it.

2. I have to have my closet organized perfectly- I have it by style and then by color. If someone gets it out of order I freak.

3. The person I hate most in the world is Juan. Juan was my Brazillian ski instuctor in fourth grade. He yelled at me in Spanish. I don't speak spanish, JUAN.

4. I love all water sounds. Like splash and gurgle. Gurgle is such a cool word.

5. I have a restricted word list:
Meal
Perhaps
Squat
Manhole
Grits

No one can use these around me; they're gross words and don't deserve to be in the dictionary.

aaronw said...

1. I am actually a fan of some girl songs. Some are "Umbrella" by Rihanna, "bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis and "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Girl)" by Wyclef Jean. I also really like Imogen Heap and like every genre of music except heavy, death metal.

2. I am a Christian and live my life for God. My saying for life is "pasce verbo, pasce vita" said by St. Bernard. It means "feed with the Word, feed with the Life."

3. Actually Nicole, I love the Lord of the Rings more (to give an example, I memorized a timeline of the Lord of the Rings and used to know how to write in Dwarfish...).Me and my best friend Jordan used to have sleepovers in 6th grade and only watch those movies -while- playing Lord of the Rings risk. I am just soooooooo cool. But I know I was (if not still am) a nerd.

4. I want to live in Seattle for at least a year, and I want to visit every European country

5. Although I don't play soccer anymore, I absolutely love the game! I wish I still played and I want to go to the World Cup final in South Africa in 2010. I also want to see a Manchester United game.

RayS said...

1.I love finger nail polish, I doupt you will ever see me with out any on.

2.I love drawing and doodeling, but in reality am really not that good!

3.I LOVE Heather Ledger (even tho he is dead)

4.I Love color coordination! From my clothes to my binders, i match no mater what!

5.I dont like to eat lettuce because the squeaky noise it makes on my teeth is like nails on a chalk board to me!

ErinO said...

1. Like most, I hate spiders! The weird thing about it is, I am not afraid of them when I am in a room full of people. It’s only when I am alone that those disgusting things freak me out, and I have no clue why! One time, I was in the basement by myself after rowing and I saw a spider. The next thing I knew, was sitting on top of the stationary bike holding my legs to my chest and squealing like a two-year-old.
2. Most don’t know this, but I own every season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (there are seven) and I have seen every episode at least three times each. I know, I know, I’m completely obsessed!
3. For some odd reason, I can’t stand it when someone has little or no arm hair, especially guys! Whenever I see someone’s arm up close, I have this weird urge to look at their arm and see if they have hair. I know it’s sooo creepy for me to do that, but I just can’t stand it when there isn’t hair there! I went basically mad when the boy’s swim season was ending and they shaved their arm hair!
4. I love the Lion King with a passion, and when I was little, my favorite character was Scar. I loved him so much, for about a year, every time I walked somewhere I would do the hyena march Scar’s minions did. It wasn’t until fifth grade that I realized that was the Nazi march!
5. Though I don’t seem that technologically advanced, I can bet a great deal that I could beat several people at video game wrestling, especially if I am wrestling as Shawn Michaels or Triple H.

1.) I absolutely hate the sound and feel of styrofoam. I hate it so much that I beg my parents to get the cardboard egg containers.

2.) Gilmore Girls is my favorite show ever. I have all the seasons on DVD, and have all the showings memorized. I have no idea why but I just love that show.

3.) I am a Christian and love God!

4.) I love playing sports, except I have no hand eye coordination. I love playing them, but all the ones that require coordination I stink at. (That’s why I run and I swim).

5.) I have this insane fear of taking the first step onto the down escalator, not the up escalator just the down one. Whenever I can I take the stairs.

helenp said...

1. When I was five I convinced my brother he was Peter Pan and could fly. He jumped off his bed and sprained his ankle but my parents never new why...

2. I bruised my cheek on a door frame this summer and since then I have been very clutzy. Today I walked into the door when I was going into my history class.

3. I absolutely HATE the munchkins in the Wizard of Oz. They are SO creepy. The flying monkeys were the best part of that movie.

4. Sometimes I think action movies are A LOT funnier than comedies, especially when they are lame or my friend Naemone is cringing at the violence or adding his own commentary. Some comedies just try too hard.

5. Oh no! The last one! It is so hard to choose something. I love the smell of sulfer. That kind of rotting egg smell. It resembles the smell of the marshes, a rotting grass smell, and that reminds me of home. In Charleston, where I used to live, there were marshes surrounding me from all sides.

lesliel said...

1) Similarly to Mrs. Leclaire, I have knee problems. This summer I went to the doctor and she said I might have Chrondmalacia, which is where the cartilage between your knee cap and your knee is deteriorating. Sometimes they hurt a lot, and I am afraid that I might not have Chrondmalacia and something else might be wrong with them. This could affect my whole future since I want to play soccer in college.

2) I play piano, and I really like to play songs that are so pretty. I can sit on a piano bench playing for hours if I find a song that can get people to look up outside my house as they walk by.

3) I hate and fear time. If I think about it too much, I become really sad about how fast it goes. Also, if my time is running out in a class period, I will start to get really flustered.

4) I am a big people pleaser. I try to be a good friend to everyone I meet, but unfortunetly sometimes that does not work out.

5) I have four siblings. They are all incredibly unique, smart, and exraordinary. Lots of people know them, you probably do too! Oh yeah, and yes, I do know that I look almost exactly like both of my sisters.

nicolek said...

aaron- i tried to figure out how to right in elvish! and was an ork for halloween in fifth grade

oh and don't worry, Maddie and I have marathons of Lord of the Rings all the time! I love it!

kristinah said...

Ok here I go!
1.) I can't stand the feel of cotton balls, I don't use them and just don't like them.

2.) I love to clean and organize pretty much anything but my room, I don't know why but I just don't like to clean my room.... I think it is natural for our generation.... maybe not :-)

3.) I am far from a person that makes drama, I like to keep things fun and easy going and when someone makes a big deal out of something, I think that it is a waist of the little time that we do have in life :-).

4.) I am a major health freak..... my junk food is corn chips haha and I feel really bad eating those but they are so good.... chips are my weakness, if I was really hungery for something besides fruit or vegies then it would probably be chips.

5.) I am far from a conformist and don't like it when everyone does the same thing or looks the same way. I have an occational shirt or pair of bottoms from the traditional stores but I love to find random little boutiques and shop there for unique, fun things!

clarao said...

1)I'm the same as Kalyn with the black hair, and then it grew back blonde.
2) I'm really into rockclimbing in the mountains.
3)I am always really hard on myself, like if i mess up on an audition or something, I can't stop thinking about it.
4) I play the electric violin.
5) I am sometimes obsessed with being clean.

aaronw said...

fine nicole, i guess we tie

Kalyn K said...

Wow, I'm realizing how much stuff annoys me that annoys other people. Pretty much everyone said they hate spiders and I just realized how scary I think they are.

Kalyn K said...

Maddie... I feel your pain when it comes to odd numbers. Well my thing I hate is more prime numbers.

Sethd said...

1: I am a still sort of a Pokemon nerd.
2: I hate country music with a passion. It puts me to sleep or just in a weird mood.
3: I love soccer but not running. Ironic...
4: I have the smallest attention span. I get bored with stuff in like fifteen minutes.
5: I sneeze continuosly when I look directly into the sun. It happens like really facst and eight times in a row. Its like I am alergic.

Alyssa s, I also have all of the seasons of Friends on dvd and I have been watching them all summer.

Maddie h, Donie Darko is the weirdest movie ever and that bunny IS really creepy.

Bren, your comment about your ski instructor Juan just makes me laugh really hard and I can totally picture you just like sitting there thinking I don’t speak spanish what is this guy thinking.

Ray, I also LOVE Heath Ledger and I still can’t believe that he is dead.

Anonymous said...

Kristina- I'm so insanely tidy. In 8th grade, I would gather everyone's trash at the lunch table and stack it up before I threw it away. I have no idea why I did this, but I just felt better when I did. Oh, by the way, I still get made fun of for it.

ErinO said...

Cat-wow! You are supper cordinated! But no worries, I have seen you done some funnier things! Love you!

Helen-hey! I love the munchkins! I find them so adorable, especially the Lolly-pop guild!

Kaylin-hey my hair did the same thing! It was black then turned brown, and then it was like clifford red like my sister! Then it turned blonde, as in bleach! But know its reddish! and hey, I agree with the Hedwigs thing!

Aaron and the LOTR people-I think everyone is obsessed with those movies! I always wanted to be an elf in it!

helenp said...

I think all the spider haters are being really harsh. Spiders are great because they get rid of all those nasty bugs!

josed said...

Wow. I really though it was fascinating about how maddie didn't like the number seventeen. That's kind of like how I like the number 7 a lot. A LOT. I generally add 777 to the names of my online profiles, and I try to see if the number seven is used. I guess I forgot to post about it... :).

I was surprised that brennanl had a restricted word list.

I'm also surprised how people hate spiders, too! But I think I'm the only one who's not scared of Tarantulas. And those things are poisonous. I'm much more scared of widow spiders. They're creepy, and deadly.

aaronw said...

seth maybe you are allergic

Kristin L said...

Jose--Why not the tarantula?
Alyssa--I own every episode of Scrubs on DVD, but I'm a Friends fan as well.
Allison--Have you seen March of the Penguins?
Kalyn--Any favorite movies? I'm a film fan as well.
Dennis--I love your number 4.
Maddie--I am also the most made fun of out of my friends, but I like it, too. I think my friends know that I'm confident enough to handle it, and I like making people laugh.

To be continued...

@ Kristina

Yea, I'm the same way with cottenballs! Every time I go to an orthidontist appointment, the Doc. always puts like 5 cottenballs in my mouth to absorbe all the spit in my mouth. Every time it just gets worse, so now I absolutely hate Cottenballs!

catherinec said...

CateM- I love gilmore girl too!
Kelsey- HARRY POTTER ROCKS!

Leslie- I totally agree with you on time.... I was gonna put that but there are only five things :-0... anywho time goes so fast and I can't stand it, there is not enough time in a day to do all of the stuff there is to do!

Clara- Electric violin!! That is amazing, I bet that is really fun to play!

Aaron- I really love your saying, that is a great motto for life!

Dennis- Hey guess what?!! My aunt has a llama, his name is Sidd and we take him on walks and stuff, he is so much fun!

Maddie- I too do not like odd numbers very much, I can't even stop the microwave on an odd number except for multiples of five!

josed said...

I hate country music too, Seth. It reminds me of too many five hour roadtrips though the not-so-scenic Florida swamps.

aaronw said...

some country music is okay jose and seth. but old country is annoying, new is okay... most of the time

ErinO said...

Seth-I agree, I hate ountry music! For me, it's jsut wierd and srange sounding. I do however love singing to it and seeing how twangy I can make it!

KelseyL said...

Aaron I can't believe that you like "Umbrella" by Rihanna, "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis. All Time Low does a cover on Umbrella and it is WAY better.

Kalyn K said...

Kristin- Um I can't possibly choose a favorite movie but I really liked Dark Knight, Casanova, Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac, and Gone Baby Gone. How about you?

brennanl said...

Ray I love Heather Ledger too :)

And erin... YOU RUINED LION KING FOR ME! No not really but still I loved the heyinas. Except Ed. What a creeper.

There are some really funny stories here! After reading all these more carefully, my comments don't seem very interesting.

Kalyn, I think it's so funny that the same thing happened to both of us with our hair when we were babies. It is so weird. I thought I was the only one.

Alyssa S. said...

O yeah, I don't like Lord of the Rings either...

Rachel--Those goal posts come out of nowhere.
Nicole--We do a big project with Postsecrets in this class; I'm obsessed with them, too.
Maddison--Do you play lacrosse for AHS?
Matt--How do you feel about being the official tech expert in this class?
Kelsey--I feel terrified when I have to drive directly in between two trucks; it does feel like you're about to be crushed.
Cat--Why Veggie Tales? Anything you'd like to play for class?
Brennan--I curse the day Juan was born.
Aaron--I went to the World Cup in Germany a couple years ago--it was one of the best times I've ever had (even though I knew nothing about soccer).

I like tarantulas because in sixth grade that was one of the pets in my science class. If it makes sense, it was a nice spider. It reminds me of mammals because it has fur.

aaronw said...

thats creepy jose

Kalyn K said...

I agree with arron that is creepy jose.

Kristin L said...

Ray--What did you think about the new Batman movie? I thought the Joker stole the show.
Erin--In response to your #3, I kind of the have the opposite obsession; it bothers me when male gymnasts are too hairy, especially because we have to look at their armpits all the time.
Cate--I feel the same about styrofoam. That noise and the noise of someone rubbing a balloon gives me goosebumps and makes me feel ill.
Helen--The munchkins are absolutey creepy, as are the Oompa Loompas (sp?) in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Leslie--We do some creative projects in class, and I've had students in the past play the piano for everyone else (sometimes we even podcast it). Just something for you to think about.
Kristina--As weird as it sounds, fear of cotton balls is actually one of the more common phobias, and I suffer from it myself.
Seth--Do you sneeze also when you look at artifical light? I think I learned in science that light induces sneezes because it makes your pupils suddenly contract, which is what happens when you sneeze.

I think that's everyone--let me know if I missed you.
